Provincial AA/A Program  Information

Competitive Commitment

Playing on a provincial team is a significant commitment. Players are expected to attend ALL team activities, including but not limited to: practices, games, tournaments, Provincials, dryland training, meetings, fundraising. Playing on a provincial team will also require a significant financial commitment beyond the cost of registration (see item below - Financial Commitment). Please consider whether you are able to make this commitment before attending tryouts. If a player’s attendance falls below an acceptable level, they may be removed from the provincial team.

AA/A teams generally attend 2 home tournaments and 2 away tournaments as provincial qualifying tournaments along with attending the provincial championships and potentially Easterns or Nationals.

What Happens if a Player Misses a Tryout?

Players are required to attend every assessment session (tryout) - failure to do so may jeopardize the player’s ability to make the team for which they are being assessed. Injuries and illness happen and we realize this can affect the tryout process. If a player happens to miss a tryout session because they are ill or injured we will still attempt to give the player 2 tryout sessions if they are available. If the player was able to attend sessions and then became ill or injured there may be the potential for us to use their current evaluations up to that point to determine placement on a team. Ultimately, in order to consider the best interest of all parties, the AMRA Executive will review the exceptional circumstances and their impact to determine how best to accommodate the player with respect to their placement on a team.

Fair Ice Policy

Playing at the AA/A level does not guarantee equal ice in all situations. This can result in hurt feelings and misunderstandings. It is important to read Ringette Ontario’s Fair Ice Guidelines ahead of time which can be found here:

Provincial Financial Commitment

With competitive teams there is a greater financial commitment. The costs of team wear, tournaments, Provincials, extra ice, and dryland
training all add up.

It means families can expect to incur costs anywhere from $2500 - $5000 per player above and beyond registration and advanced team fees, depending on the amount of fundraising a team does.

Please see the below for more details on what to expect in terms of financial commitment.    These costs are subject to change yearly.

Estimated Individual Costs:

Tryout fee $75 + $50 tryout jersey = $130

Team Wear $250 (if all items are needed)

Power Skating $350

Away Tournament Accommodations - assumes 1 room for 3 nights = $1800

Provincial Tournament Accommodations Wednesday-Sunday = $1500

*For out-of-town tournaments, please also factor in fuel, food and other travel expenses

Estimated Team Costs (12 players per team assumed):

Tournament team registration fees -> 5 tournaments x $1000 = $5000

Provincial Event $2,000

Additional Ice $3,300  - Assumes 15 full ice (or 30 half ice)

Exhibitions Games $ 650 - Assumes 3 exhibitions games

Team Building Events $ 300

Dryland Sessions $1,500 - Assumes 24 (weekly) sessions

This estimate excludes any sponsorship and/or team fundraising
